The most common thing I hear as a family and wedding photographer is “we’re not good at taking photos” BUT I have a secret tool, my easy couples engagement photo poses that work every time! You may feel uncomfortable in front of the camera at first (which is normal for the first 20 minutes) it won’t last long!
A photo is nothing more than documenting your life in this time period to reminisce on in later years.
There are no expectations for your engagement photos except to have fun and be yourselves. With a little styling and guidance beforehand, these will make wonderful heirlooms and gifts for your family!
Being a wedding and family photographer in PA has led me to couples whose stories are unique to them. When your photographer truly knows you and what you value, the rest comes naturally.
Do you need a little inspiration for your upcoming photos or just want to practice for your next pic together? Below are a few of my favorite couples poses and how to achieve them.
Pictured in the first photo below in the top left.
The side link is the one I always start with because 9 times out of 10 the guys are already doing the first step. Which is to put their hands in their pockets and face the camera.
Then you will stand next to him with your toes facing the side of his feet.
From there, link his arm with the right hand and put the left hand on his chest.
There are two variations to this one.
The first: begin with him sitting with his legs facing out. Then sit next to him and drape your legs over his legs. Then wrap arms around each other and snuggle up.
The second: begin the same way, with his legs facing out but this time put yourself between his legs. From there hold hands, snuggle up and lean into each other like you would on a couch.
Super simple and can lead to so many different images in one spot. It’s as simple as it sounds, just go toes to toes, nose to nose, have belly buttons touch, and embrace. To create variety lay head on his chest, hold hands, kiss, go nose to nose, kiss hands, etc.
Begin by holding hands and separating while staying stationary. From there, begin to walk slowly while looking at each other, down, and out any other direction except straight. Chat with your partner during these and throw in a couple of booty bumps and spins for fun!
Give ya girl a big bear hug from behind, followed by some neck kisses! Wanna take it to the next level? Lean back into your partner and laugh. 😉
