I absolutely adore Spring time in South Central PA! The blooms, the unexpected storms, the smell of rain and fresh cut grass. Not to mention it’s the best time for spring family photos during this lush green and colorful season!! But sometimes planning and picking spring family photo outfits can be a challenge. Especially when it’s 30 degrees in the morning and 85 degrees by afternoon. Being a Family and Wedding photographer in PA for almost 10 years, I’ve been asked how to prepare for Spring photos with unpredictable weather many times. I decided to put together my top three tips for you below:
2. Layers on layers on layers are necessary for spring family photo outfits. Especially when going to the mountains, it will be a few degrees colder there all the time and can have drastically different weather than below. A simple sweater, button down, or cardigan will do wonders and just in case. I always recommend a winter jacket still to throw on in between shots if you get cold easily! AND as a bonus, if the sun decides to shine we can shed some layers and add more variety 😉
3. Embrace the wind, rain, thunder, and whatever else may happen during your photos. Each and every session I’ve done is unique and unexpected. Sometimes there’s sunshine the whole time, and other times it decides to hail half way through. Just be prepared to go with the flow! Your photographer will have you covered no matter the weather 😉
The sweet late March session below was actually flurrying and freezing!!
